Smart Casuals.

Hello Everyone!

I got a lot of emails asking about how to dress for office/college events which have smart casuals as dress code. I thought it would be a great topic to blog about. Firstly, just because it is an important event it does not mean you have to rush to shop to buy clothes. In this blogpost I deal how you can recycle a basic polka dot shirt into three different smart casual outfits. Smart Casual is a relatively new dress code that often bridges the gap between Casual and Business Casual. Smart Casual is a casual, yet polished, “smart” way of dressing that is practical in more relaxed environments where it is still desirable to look professional and put together. This is probably my favorite way to dress! (Although a pencil skirt is my favorite way to dress in the office).

OUTFIT ONE

Choose tasteful attire when dressing for an office party with a smart casual dress code. If your office typically follows a business casual dress code, select an outfit that you would wear to work. Alter it a bit by adding in something sparkly or shiny, such as shirt, a blazer, a scarf or a statement piece of jewelry. This will allow you to look appropriately festive. In outfit one, I have paired polka dot shirt with black pencil skirt and blazer. Added a festive touch with funky statement jewelry in the form of cuff, necklace and rings. Completed the look with messenger bag. The best thing about this outfit is if you have to head to a meeting after the event then all you have to do is remove the necklace and cuff. In 30 secs you can transform it into a formal attire.

I am wearing...
Polka dot shirt - Commercial Street (Old, Cost Rs.480)
Skirt - Van Huesen (Bought during Van Huesen 50% Sale for Rs. 900)
Necklace - Courtesy Romwe.com (BUY HERE)
Rings and Cuff - Stilettos Diary Shop.
ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in (BUY HERE)
Sunglasses - Courtesy Firmoo.com (BUY HERE)
Heels - Steve Madden (Bought last year end of sale.)
Bat shaped Bag - courtesy Oasap (BUY HERE)

OUTFIT TWO

Smart casual does not mean that you can wear whatever you want, the smart casual dress code it has certain rules that you should consider. Do not interpret the word "casual", as most people have a big misconception about it. Smart casual clothing means you are wearing a well-ironed, neat and slick party code dress. If you are not fan of skirts, then you can opt for trousers. I opted for balloon trousers and paired it with polka dot top. Usually clutch bags and polished bags are considered smart casuals, but I decided to pair the outfit with hobo bag. Completed the look with tan cage heels (this is the only tan heels I have!), belt and statement jewelry. This outfit can be worn to more relaxed environment like upscale restaurant, college events, get-together, dates, dinner parties. I suggest for office events replace the cage heels with pumps and remove few set of rings from this outfit.

I am wearing...
Polka dot shirt - Commercial Street (Old, Cost Rs.480)
Balloon Trousers- Vero Moda (Bought during Vero Moda 50% Sale for Rs. 1500)
Rings- Stilettos Diary Shop.
Belt- Commercial Street. (Bought in local store for Rs.200)
Rhinestone necklaces - Commercial street (Paid Rs.650 for two)
ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in (BUY HERE)
Sunglasses - Courtesy Firmoo.com (BUY HERE)
Heels - Trendz Commercial Street (Bought last year end of sale for Rs.799)

OUTFIT THREE

If you are not comfortable wearing a lot of jewelry, then I suggest opt for something similar to Outfit three. Paired polka dot shirt with pencil skirt without belt. This gives illusion you are wearing a dress. Mid length dress and skirts just above the knees are permissible. Anything less than 10cm above the knee is a definite no. Added a bit of color with a vibrant clutch and retro mint sunglasses. This outfit is perfect for office brunch party. If you are not high heels person, then you can opt for flats or wedge heels.

I am wearing...
Polka dot shirt - Commercial Street (Old, Cost Rs.480)
Skirt - Van Huesen (Bought during Van Huesen 50% Sale for Rs. 900)
ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in (BUY HERE)
Sunglasses - ALDO (Bought during Buy one get one free offer. Bought two for Rs.700)
Neon Yellow Clutch- Brigade Road (Local Store , buy one get one free offer. Bought two for Rs.1300)

Smart Casual Do's For Women:

- Mid-length dress - trousers - Jeans ( No ripped jeans allowed. Blue jeans preferably) - skirt (The length should fall just above the knee) - Jewelry and belts - Blazer or Cardigan (Blazers add a sophisticated touch to outfit) - shawl and scarfs (Great way to infuse color) - clutch bag - shoes (High heels, short wedges and ballerina flats. Avoid open toed and high wedge heels)

Smart Casual Do Not’s For Women:

- Flip Flops - T-shirt (Slogans or logos on the top are not allowed) - Large tote bag - Evening gown - Sportswear - Mini skirts, Sequined dress.

Custom Made for Stilettos Diary.

Hello Everyone,

Wish all of you a very Happy Valentine's Day. Hope all of you had a great time. Today, Stilettos Diary collaborates with Toteteca Bags.

Well today's title has been ripped from "Custom Made for Vir Sanghvi". I always loved his show and envied him. Searching for new exotic things and getting hold of custom made items! I always have added my own twist to outfits to reflect my personality. I am not a fan of dressing like everybody. I always ensured most of my outfits to be unique and to reflect my personality. When Kushal from Toteteca Bags contacted me, I was more than excited to collaborate with Toteteca Bags. This was my chance to custom make a bag that truly reflected my taste and personality. What more can I ask for?

Toteteca has about 24 different "shape" options for the bag. I choose this Cambridge satchel inspired design. After selecting the desired shape, I had a lot of fun customizing the bag. I decided to go with vibrant orange color as the "base color" of the bag (this color bag was missing in my wardrobe). I chose a contrasting "cranberry" color for the trims, lining and the pouch. I chose "gold metal finishing" and monogrammed my initials.

I know Valentine's Day is coming to end (though I never understood the concept of celebrating love just one day). If you haven't gifted your loved ones yet, then I think "Toteteca Bag" is a great option. Something unique, personalized and authentic (plus you score bonus points for putting efforts and thinking out of the box) gift for loved ones. Do check out Toteteca.com

I had fun designing the bag and thank Kushal for this truly beautiful one of kind bag reflecting my taste. The finished product was more than what I had anticipated.

Few tips to remember while ordering...

1. Drop in an email to the customer service to verify the colors to avoid confusion after receiving the order.
2. I prefer online payment than cash on delivery as the charges for cash on delivery is high.

How to Walk in High Heels?

Hello Everyone!
I usually get emails and messages asking how I manage to walk in high heels. I thought I will put together post that help all of you. I will focus on how to make high heels comfortable and by just becoming more aware of how you walk can be the key to learning to walk more easily and more elegantly.

1. Get right fit. It is important to get the right fit. Once you like the pair of heels walk around the store. If it is uncomfortable your feet will give signals.

2. Take the high heel test: Stand on the floor in your shoes with your knees straight, but not locked. Try to raise yourself on your toes so there's at least an inch of space under the heels. If this is not possible, your heels are too high and not appropriate for you.

3. If you are a complete new comer to walking on heels, then start first with wedge heels. Stick to wedge heels of 2 to 3 inches. Practice walking at home before taking your heels out. Get familiar with your shoes and try wearing them for 15-30 minutes at a time. Take them off, take a break and try again later.

4. After you are comfortable with wedge heels, you can move to kitten heels of 2-3 inches. Ensure that you first rest your heel and then the toe. This helps you balance yourself, provides better posture and comfortable walking strut. When you walk, make sure to keep your heels vertical. Do not roll to the side!

5. The higher your heel, the shorter your step will be. Styles with a slight platform under the toe area tend to be more comfortable and minimize the angle and pressure on the ball of the foot.

6. When walking up stairs, first land on your toe and then heels. Use the help of railings and put your entire heels on the stairs to avoid mishaps.

7. Break your heels before you use them for long hours. By long hours I mean 3 hours. Always keep a pair of flats handy to put on. If you use public transport like I do. I wear flats until I reach office and change to heels in the restroom. When I am sitting in my workstation I usually remove my heels. This reduces the stress on your back, knee and heels.

8. Walking in high heels means the smallest of pebbles, potholes, and uneven pavement can trip you up. Avoiding wearing in Indian roads and pavement.

9. Spend a few minutes giving yourself a foot massage after wearing heels. Use a tennis ball and massage under your foot in a few different directions. This not only helps loosen muscles, but can also improve the sensitivity of the sole of your foot for better balance. You can also soak your feet in hot water. It helps you overcome the stress and pain.

10. Avoid high heels if you have a lot of walking to do. When you are comfortable wearing heels, then experiment with high heels. Practice every day at your home. It will help you gain confidence.

11. I usually face problems of heels becoming lose after wearing 4-5 times. This will definitely hamper your walking. Fill in your shoes with foot cushions in the ball of the feet, this will not only help filling in gap, but make walking in heels comfortable. Fill the gap between and back of your heels with Relief strips which come on a roll like Scotch tape, but have a thick, cushion feel. Take a walk around your bedroom, feel out the exact spot where your heel is slipping out of your shoe, then stick a few inches of this stuff right there. If one piece doesn't do the trick, layer one on top of another until your heel rests comfortably against the strips. If still problem persists, the next best step would be to get a full insole to put inside your shoes.

12. Sit as much as possible. Every 20 minutes, so that you will give rest to your feet. While walking in heels ensure from your leg to spine is straight.

13. If you have to walk on slippery surface the prep our soles with grips affix to the bottom of your shoe to create some friction and provide better walking stability. Even simpler option scratch the bottom of your soles with sandpaper!

14. Walk with confidence. Don't let the fear of tumbling stop you from wearing heels. Ignore the gasps from people who think you are insane to walk in high heels.

15. Lastly, always break your heels before the big day. Take your heel for a test-drive, like shopping for grocery in supermarket. Get comfortable with them before wearing it out on any big occasions. This reduces the element of surprise and you are well prepared for the big day.

P.S Hope these tips will help you. Click on the images and it will show you how I have styled each of the heels. Will be back soon with more interesting posts, collaboration and outfit posts.

Rightly so the outfits are no less than any designer wear. Affordable, trendy and chic pieces ranging from the latest street style to classic couture, Vinegar offers a range of clothes to meet the needs of every customer. The next time you are at Orion Mall, don't forget to check out Vinegar. A trip that won't leave you disappointed. Don't blame me if you go overload shopping, you simply can't resist the versatile and eye catching clothes. Check out Vinegar facebook page and stay updated.

I am a huge fan of black and gold combination. Of late my wardrobe consists of every shade of yellow. So, I decided to style this Vinegar black skirt with beautiful golden bead work with black tank top, black blazer and stockings. Completed the look with gold accessories, black wedge heels and yellow-black clutch. I truly fell in love with Vinegar store because of this clutch. It is really hard to find a yellow-black combination clutch. Therefore, I decided to dedicate this blogpost to the clutch.

The outfit photos were edited by me and each quote reflects my idea of style. I truly believe, it's not the clothes that create trends, it's how a person carries it off. Fashion is not about brands, it is something within you. I don't believe in spending ton of money to buy something because it is branded. I buy items which are of value to me and reflects my style. Something Karl Lagerfield struck to me "I make clothes that people don't need". It's true, I won't die if I don't have a Chanel in my wardrobe. I don't like blindly following trends. To me anything that looks good on me is trend. Next time, remember shop items which makes you feel comfortable. Create your own style and identity.

Coupons is a great way of getting deals on online website. I have always used coupons to get little extra off on most items on Pepperfry, FlipKart. Couponing is a great way of "collecting discounts" (the way I see it) on plethora of Indian online shopping websites. Be it Flipkart, Pepperfry, Myntra ,Jabong, CouponDunia offers a daily updates on coupons, promo codes and coupon codes to make your shopping trip worth while. Add the coupon code while checking out.

P.S. Thanks to my sister Prajwala for taking outfit posts, Store photos by Prasoon Agarwal. The outfit photos edited by me.

P.P.S This is the same heels I fell down wearing! One person pushed me really hard while crossing road( God knows for what reason he was in a hurry!) and I lost balance and fell down in the middle of busy traffic filled road. Luckily din't get run over by any vehicle. Post which I was really scared to wear this heel. Finally, got over my fear and now I am back on heels again.
