#TheOfficeSeries - The One with Tweed and Pearls

Hi Everyone!

I am so excited about today's post because this look was inspired from the Chanel 2020 Cruise collection. Virginie Viard took over as the artistic director of Chanel due to untimely death of Karl Lagerfeld. She did a phenomenal job with the new collection. The cruise collection has colorful tweed jackets, two tones, masculine jackets/trousers and ruffles. Sharing few of my favorite looks (photos via chanel.com lookbook) from the collection and how I took inspiration to use my existing closet and style my office outfit:

As you can see, I took inspiration from most of the outfits shared. I paired my masculine trouser in rust color with two toned tweed jacket and completed the look with pearl necklace. You may feel this is too much color for work but the colors compliment each other so well. It does not look overwhelming at all.

As you know, I started #TheOfficeSeries to make sure it is as real as possible. I wanted to talk about important topics such as sustainable and conscious buying. Most retailers such as Zara and H&M have come under a lot of pressure to look at sustainable fashion. Fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries and it emits more carbon into environment than any other industry. Due to fast fashion, people bought 60% more garments they did in 2000. This has caused significant damage to environment in the form of polluted rivers, oceans, 10% increase in carbon emission and dried up water sources. Key to a sustainable and fashionable wardrobe is to invest in classic and timeless staples. In this series I am reusing my existing wardrobe which I bought almost 5-7 years ago. Let us not get lost in the sea of consumerism and be smart with shopping choices. Request you to look at the bigger picture before shopping.

What do you think of the styling? Shared outfit details below:

Wedding season shopping guide

Hi Everyone!

December is upon us and with December starts wedding season. With plethora of options as a bride one is always left confused on what to wear on the D- Day. Therefore, I decided to do a guide for how to shop lehengas for brides based on one’s body type.

1. If you have apple body type:

What does it mean? You have wide torso, broad shoulders and full bust, waist and back. You have thinner lower body.

What to opt for? To ensure your body is proportionate, go for a full flare lehengas with heavy embroidery towards the lower half of lehenga. This will not accentuate your waist. Do not go heavy embroidery on your waist. Idea is to highlight lower half of your body.

Check out few wedding lehenga

2. If you have pear body type

What does it mean? You have wide hips and lower body but you have slim arms, shoulders and bust.

What to opt for? To ensure your body is proportionate, go for A-line lehengas. Accentuate your upper body and waist with modern blouses.

3. If you have straight body type :

What does it mean? Your upper and lower body are same size

What to opt for? To ensure your body is proportionate, go for A-line or full flare lehengas. Accentuate your upper body and waist with short blouses. Do avoid boat shaped and look for lehengas which add volume.

Check out few bridal lehenga

4. If you have hour- glass body type

What does it mean? You have narrow waist and curvy upper and lower body.

What to opt for? Well since your body is proportionate you can experiment with any type. But I do suggest for Aline lehengas with heavy embroidery on the waist.

Check out few designer lehenga

Hope you like the suggestions. Until next time!

#TheOfficeSeries - Monochromes Only!

One of my all time favourite trend is wearing monochrome outfits to work. I love the simplicity of this trend and the best part is that any monochrome outfit makes you look leaner and taller. The most important rule when trying this trend is to ensure that the silhouette is flowing (chiffon or georgette material) to give an elegant finish to the outfit. I know most people avoid this trend because it is boring but one way to break the boredom is by adding statement jewellery and accessories.

This week sharing not one but two of my current monochrome mood outfits. According to me, the go to colour this season green. I have been crushing on all the green faux leather street style outfits. In my first look I styled my green dress with statement heels and earrings. In my second look, I added statement belt and bracelet.

What do you think of this trend? Would you incorporate it in your work wardrobe? I have shared outfit details with size specifications below.

#TheOfficeSeries - The One with the Ruffles

Hello Everyone!

I am back with yet another outfit post for the #TheOfficeSeries. First of all, if you are wondering how come I am on the road and not at work. I took these photos outside work. Makes it more easier to pose and unleash the blogger side of me.

Every time I think of ruffles it reminds me of Downton Abbey. Remember all those gorgeous gown on Lady Mary with subtle tiered ruffles? This trend has been around since the 16th century and it seems to be favourite among the designers. The trend has evolved with time and the designers have made it more modern to suit tastes of the younger generation. Usually, most people wear A-line or pencil skirts to work but stay away from ruffled skirts as it adds volume. Contrary to popular belief, ruffle skirt is flattering to any body type. The downward cascading ruffles, is very flattering and creates an hourglass effect on any body type. Easy way of incorporating ruffles into work wear is opting for shirt or top with ruffles. If you like to experiment and your office is more open towards dress code, then you can try incorporating ruffled skirt, dress, pants or jackets into your daily work wardrobe.

I love this trend and it creates interesting depth to any outfit. I paired tiered ruffled skirt with fitted black blazer. Completed the outfit with my belt bag. I usually carry two bags, one for my laptop and other based on the outfit I am wearing. The belt bag is god send, especially when you travel by metro or bus. I finished my look with wedge heels which has all the colours of my outfit. I am not a fan of dull colours,I need colour in my work wardrobe as it instantly lifts my mood. A pop of bright lipstick makes such a huge difference in the morning.

What do you think of this trend? Would you incorporate it in your work wardrobe? I have shared outfit details with size specifications below.

#TheOfficeSeries - The One with Snakeskin print

Hello Everyone!

I am back with another post for my new series called as #TheOfficeSeries. This one is called "The one with snakeskin print". One of the prominent trends this season has been animal print especially snakeskin print. Today's blogpost is about styling them for causal friday. Most corporates say no to ripped jeans but I am styling this ripped jeans (very minimal ripping) and adding classic elements to make it more work wear friendly.

In this blogpost I have shown how much styling makes a difference for the final finish of any outfit.

In my first styling, I have gone for more relaxed look by not tucking the shirt and not belting the trench coat. Completed the look with pouch bag and loafers. If you are someone who likes casual styling then I suggest to go with this styling. It is super comfortable to get you through the long hours and extremely chaotic Fridays.

In my second styling, I tucked my shirt and wore pouch bag as belt. This makes the outfit look more polished. This is definitely my go to style.

For my final styling, I tucked the shirt and belted the trench coat. This is very classic style. I usually would wear this styling with tailored trousers, high heels but keeping in mind it is rainy season and I love my heels, I styled this look with jeans and loafers.

Do let me know which styling is your personal favorite. I have shared the outfit details below.

Trench Coat - C/O Romwe.com - (Old - got it 5 years ago) True to Size. Wearing M

Talking a bit about the series, it is outfits shot on the go via a phone. The blogposts are going to be as real as it gets! Do let me know your thoughts on the series.

P.S Is it me or managing your flats during rainy season is so painful. My black polished loafers by the time I reach office are almost brown thanks to dust and walking. I am someone who uses public transport but so tired of all my black shoes turning brown. If you have suggestions how you clean your shoes, DM me on instagram.

#TheOfficeSeries - The One with Satin and Metallics

Hello Everyone!

I know it has been almost three years since any of you saw a blogpost from Stilettos diary. Well, sometimes it is funny the way life works. It has been a very enriching three years. I have learnt that the hard experiences, do not define you but refine you. I took all those crazy experiences and lessons I learnt and kept them in a box labeled "THANK YOU". I stopped thinking in the lines of "Oh God! Why me? to "Thank God! It is me, I am strong enough to get through this". I do apologise to those who still follow me for the lack of posts. Thank you for your patience and kindness. Now, let's get into the new series I have created. It is called the #TheOfficeSeries.

I started this blog as a mid twenty fashion lover and now I am an 30 something blogger. My style and my outlook to fashion has changed. Recently I read the news about how Instagram is getting rid of likes from instagram to create a less pressurised platform. On a daily basis I scroll through well curated content of most bloggers (I do love the effort, perseverance and creativity) but I feel somewhere down the line we have lost realism. We chase perfection which is not the truth of those well curated content. These thoughts helped me create this series. The blogposts are outfits I wear to work shot on phone. This is how I started the blog, I am so happy that I am restarting the same way. The idea is to showcase realism and outfits shot on the go!

Real outfits do not mean non trendy outfits. It is about incorporating the fashion show trends into your daily life which suits your personality and style. In India, when it comes to work wear, we do not tend to experiment. We still stick to basic formal which usually comes in black, beige and grey. I styled this outfit to work this week and it is called "The One with Satin and Metallics" (Yes my ode to the amazing F.R.I.E.N.D.S shows on the shows 25th anniversary).Usually, satin clothes have a sheen associated with them but you do find satin finished tops which is not very overwhelming for work wear. They are great for layering as well. I paired the top with silver metallic skirt. Usually most styling of metallic is with black or white, I must say I am loving this olive and metallic silver combo. I finished the outfit with pop of orange lip color and matching heels. What do you think? Yay or Nay?

Trendy and different does not me I need to spurge a lot of money. Can you guess the cost of the outfit? Well check out the outfit details.

As you can see the entire outfit is within Rs.2500. The quality of the top and the skirt is really good. The skirt has a lining as well with elastic waist band. Cost effective does not mean bad quality clothes, it just means you are smarter with your spends. Do let me know what you think about the series and the outfit. I will be back with a new outfit on #TheOfficeSeries!
